Information, Advice and Support Service

Salford Information, Advice and Support Service give information, advice and support to children, young people and parents about special educational needs and disability, including health and social care matters.

We can help to make sure that your views are heard, understood and respected. We are a free, confidential and impartial service offering a single point of consistent contact. We can explain how special educational needs are identified and assessed, who you should talk to, and inform you of your rights and responsibilities.

The Family Fund gives grants to lower income families with severely disabled children for things that make life easier and more enjoyable. Call the helpline on 01904 621115 or email info@familyfund.org.uk.

 

Turn2us
Turn2us is part of the Elizabeth Finn charity and provides an online and telephone service that helps people access the money available to them through benefits, grants and other financial help. Visit the Turn2us website for help finding grant-giving charities or call free on 0808 802 2000 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm).

 

Disabled Facilities Grant

A Disabled Facilities Grant is a local council grant to help towards the cost of adapting your home to enable you to continue to live there. A grant is paid when the council considers that changes are necessary to meet your needs, and that the work is reasonable and practical.

 

The amount paid is usually based on a financial assessment, however there is no means testing for families of disabled children under 19. The maximum amount the council can pay is £30,000. Grant applications will only be considered following an occupational therapist recommendation. Call 0161 607 1448 to find out more.

Carers Direct, provided by the NHS, provides national information, advice and support for carers. Call 0808 802 0202 between 8am and 9pm from Monday to Friday or between 11am and 4pm at weekends.

Challenging Behaviour Foundation provides support and makes a different to the lives of people with severe learning difficulties.

KIDS the disabled children's charity. KIDS vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations and their right to an inclusive community which supports them and their families.

 

Salford Parent Voice

Salford Parent Voice a group of parents/carers of children and young people with SEND. They represent your voice as parents and carers, working alongside you, the local authority, schools, health services and other providers to make sure the services they plan and deliver meet the needs of your children and families.

 

The Options Clinical Team

The Options Clinical Team have created a series of help sheets offering advice and guidance for parents and carers who look after children, young people and adults with autism.
